Kindy Graduation

Kindy Graduation

The Graduating Kindy Class of 2015 held their ceremony on Monday 14 December in front over 100 very proud family and friends.

Their very proud teaching staff – Mrs Borbas, Miss Moloney, Mrs Boccia, Miss Sawyer, Mrs Scott and Mrs Spicer – congratulated each Kindy student in their graduation to Pre-Primary.  Each child received a book and certificate, shaking Mrs Clelland’s hand and enjoyed photos and morning tea afterwards.

The ceremony was topped off (with sparkly top hats!) with an excellent “rendition” of “New York, New York” – except our song was called “Pre-Primary!”

Thank you to all the parent support during the year, we appreciate all your help.

Congratulations to the Graduating Kindy Class of 2015.

Thanksgiving Buddy Up – Kindy and Green Block

Thanksgiving Buddy Up – Kindy and Green Block

Kindy and Green Block had a great time “buddying up” for the culmination of our Celebrations Theme.  Kindy kids and the Year 5 and 6’s took part in rotation activities – The Turkey Scrunch, Planting Corn, and The Corn Wreath.

It was very pleasing to see our  Year 5 and 6’s being buddies to our younger students, helping them out, being responsible and showing confidence – the Kindy kids had a great time.

Changing Colours

Changing Colours

Today we did a follow up on our Science experiment of colour mixing.  Last week we had to think about what would happen to the colours.  Today we completed a PicCollage on our findings.

Puppet Demonstration

Puppet Demonstration

Thank you to Glen and Michelle Perks for being a part of Mega Monday today.  All Kindy children thoroughly enjoyed the hand-made puppet demonstration and the opportunity to create their own finger puppets.  The children were able to use their creativity and imagination through their own puppet shows.

Nursery Rhyme and Fairy Tale Celebration

Nursery Rhyme and Fairy Tale Celebration

Kindy has been having a fantastic time learning about many different Nursery Rhyme and Fairy Tales over the Semester.  All your old favourites and classics like Baa Baa Black Sheep, Jack and the Beanstalk, Hickory Dickory, The Gingerbread Man, The Little Red Hen, Hey Diddle Diddle, The Three Little Pigs and Mary, Mary Quite Contrary.  We have enjoyed learning about the stories, the characters, finding the rhyming words and completing craft activities.

To celebrate, on Thursday and Friday, Kindy enjoyed a dress-up day – as your favourite Nursery Rhyme and Fairy Tale character – with a surprise “hunt” around the school.  What a wonderful job by our parents – very creative costumes with characters like Jack & Jill, the Cat from Hey Diddle, Little Red Riding Hood, Old Mother Hubbard, Little Miss Muffet and the Spider, Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Old MacDonald, Pat-a-Cake Baker’s Man, Goldilocks, the Queen of Hearts, Peter Rabbit, Mary had a Little Lamb, Little Bo Peep, the Golden Egg, Mary Mary Quite Contrary – just to name a few!!

The “hunt” took the Kindy children around the school finding clues about a variety of Nursery Rhyme and Fairy Tale characters.  We even found magic beans – like Jack did from Jack & the Beanstalk – that lead us to the school garden where we made little flowers to “plant” in the garden, just like Mary, Mary Quite Contrary.  We found a spoon, then needed to find a dish… which we found near the Canteen! There we found “moons” we had to jump over – just like the cow!! We found Humpty Dumpty on his “wall” at the Nature Playground and tried our hand balancing different items like a ball and tower made from Duplo.  We found a bucket, which could only mean Jack & Jill!  We then found the “hill” which we had to climb with a “pail of water” – but we couldn’t spill any of the water – what a challenge!  Finally arriving back to the classrooms to write about our favourite Nursery Rhyme or Fairy Tale.  What a day!

We even bumped into the Wicked Witch, who had a very, very shiny red apple!  However, we were so pleased to realise it was only Mrs Clelland!  Phew!

Kindy Literacy Cycle with Ann

Kindy Literacy Cycle with Ann

On Wednesday, Kindy had a visit from Dr Ann Morrice.  Ann lead an exciting morning on Literacy with our focus on our recent fairy tale – The Three Little Pigs.

Students participated in a Literacy Cycle where we worked together collaboratively to spell out words and write a sentence.  Our sentence for Kindy was: “The pig is pink.”.

We were very impressed at the amazing results with our Kindy kids remembering the letters and sounds to make the words into a sentence.  It was great to see all Kindy kids having a go and working together as a team.

Book Week Dress Up

Book Week Dress Up

Wow! What a fantastic start to the week celebrating book week. Everyone looked amazing in their costumes and we had lots of FUN down at Kindy!

We had a great day starting off with a whole school parade, followed by activities based on the books: The Rainbow Fish, Pig the Pug, The Green Sheep, The Enormous Turnip, Noni the Pony and Snail and the Turtle. Some of these activities included: cooking, making paper plate rainbow fish, play rhyming games with Pig the Pug and painting and decorating our favourite coloured sheep.

Have a look at some photos from the day.
