We have just had an amazing morning celebrating our Dads by completing some fun activities and enjoying a yummy breakfast. We were lucky to have some Mums, brothers, Grandads, Uncles and family friends to come along if our Dad’s were working or away. Have a fantastic day on Sunday 4th of September. Happy Fathers Day!!
To continue our ‘Aussie Books’ theme in Kindy, the Stellars read ‘Wombat Went A’ Racing’ by Lachlan Creagh. This also coincided with the Olympics. Combining both topics, we discussed racing and events, winning, losing, but more importantly trying your hardest and having fun. We also realised that racing and Olympics involve the keys of success, particularly those of persistence and resilience.
Along with discussions, we also did a variety of activities including making medals, a torch, the Olympic rings, creating a wombat and painting our favourite character.
On Tuesday and Wednesday this week, Kindy had a visit from Dr Ann Morrice, our Literacy Specialist, helping us with sounding out our letters and writing…..it was very exciting!
Students participated in a Literacy Cycle where we worked together collaboratively to spell out words and write a sentence. Our sentence for Kindy was: “Holly has a red hat”.
Our Kindy kids worked really hard to remember the letters and sounds, to write the words. It was great to see all Kindy kids having a go and working together as a team.
Room 10 have been busy learning about the Olympics this term.
Building our Olympic venues was quite challenging but we persevered and are thrilled with the results!
We have also had a lot of fun with our Olympic Math tasks, which involved throwing, jumping, measuring and recording our data in lots of different ways.
In Kindy we have been loving using the iPads and learning about new apps. Some of our favourites include: Eggy Alphabet, Eggy Numbers, Tangrams, Geoboard and Doodle Buddy.
We have recently been learning how to ‘app smash’ using the camera function on the iPad and the Doodle Buddy app. App smashing is when we use a number of apps at the same time.
Last week’s creation involved our learning of the Olympics. We had to follow a 5 step ‘work flow’ to create our Olympic Doodle Buddy photo. We had to first take a photo of our friend wearing their Olympic medal and RIO torch. Then we wrote our name and drew the Olympic rings, remembering to use the correct colours.
See our amazing app smashing creations below!
To culminate our learning about the Olympics in Kindy, we had our very own MINI OLYMPICS! The events we competed in were: sack relay, ten pin bowling, egg and spoon race and quoits. We had so much FUN!
We have enjoyed learning about the Olympics in Kindy. This week we used a “work flow” to help us create a Doodle Buddy photo.
We took a photo of our friend with their Olympic medal and torch we had made. Then on our photo we wrote our name and drew the Olympic rings.
Photos below show our work flow, the Solars’ creation and the Rubies’.
Term 3 focuses on Aussie Books in Kindy. We have enjoyed reading “Possum Magic” by Mem Fox and learning about our country. We went “travelling” through our states and cities, as well as discussing our favourite Australian foods. A lot of Kindy friends couldn’t believe how much they enjoyed eating pumpkin scones, even if they don’t like eating pumpkin!!
Our next book has been “Wombat Went A Racing” by Lachlan Creagh. This has coincided with our learning of the Olympic Games. We have discussed the different Australian animals, painting our favourite and learnt about the dugong.
